Sam Scott

Vice President, SMN Motorsports

Sam Scott joined the Sports Management Network staff in 2002 as Vice President of SMN Motorsports – the firm’s corporate motorsports consulting and marketing practice. Sam’s primary focus within this role is to work objectively and independently with SMN clients, corporations and advertising agencies in the areas of sponsorship acquisition, analysis, consultation and implementation. Sam creates racing related programs that are specifically structured around a company’s goals and objectives and contain metrics to measure the return on investment.

Prior to joining SMN, Sam spent 30 years with the Ford Motor Company. Sam joined Ford in 1972 in the Chicago regional sales division for Ford Parts and Service Division. He progressed through a variety of marketing, merchandising, parts sales, owner relations, field service and brand management positions before becoming involved with the Ford Racing program in 1990.

Following a period directing the Ford Customer Service racing program, Sam was ultimately promoted to the Ford Division Racing Manager position. In this capacity, Sam managed Ford’s diverse involvement with race teams, sponsors, track promoters and sanctioning bodies and developed unique programs to enhance sponsorship value for Ford and other affiliated sponsors. Sam’s work with Ford’s racing programs reached virtually all forms of motorsports including NASCAR, CART, Formula 1, World Rally Championship, Grand-American, Trans-Am and NHRA.

Earlier in his career, Sam worked for three years with Arvin Industries in the company’s automotive aftermarket division. He served as District Manager in both the Indianapolis and Detroit markets. Sam holds a B.S. in Marketing from Ball State University.

Sam currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Motorsports Hall of Fame.
